Curriculum

Holy Trinity Orthodox School offers a traditional academic curriculum. Subjects are taught using the State of California Standards. Reading, Mathematics, Language Arts (Grammar, Spelling, and Composition), Science, Social Studies, and Religion are taught on a daily basis. Our classroom experience is enhanced by the use of computers in every classroom.

We strive, on an ongoing basis, to provide our students with the highest in academic excellence. Our curriculum is updated on a regular basis in order to stay current with accepted academic standards and to constantly improve and enrich our programs.

A literature-based Reading Program complements the fundamental reader in all grades. Primary grades use a reader series and phonics-based texts. In the upper grades, additional readings focus on a variety of fiction and non-fiction literature. All students are required to read quality literature to supplement their classroom studies and to foster a life-long love of reading.

Our Mathematics Program is very thorough in scope and sequence throughout the grades. A basic foundation of math skills in the primary grades fosters the grasp of later concepts. Attention is given to all areas of mathematics, including computation, problem solving, and algebraic and geometric concepts. Pre-Algebra is taught in 7th grade; Algebra I is taught in 8th grade. Enrichment is provided for students who excel in math.

A phonics based Language Arts Program in the primary grades follows an integrated whole-language approach. The upper grades use a combination of approaches. Grammar usage and mechanics are emphasized and utilized in composition. Special attention is given to vocabulary enrichment at all grade levels.

Religious materials are acquired from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and taught under the direction of our Pastor.

Our school participates in a Greek Immersion Program sponsored by the Education Department of the Greek government. Each grade attends a 45-minute class each day, taught in the Greek language by our Greek teacher. This teacher is provided for us at no cost by the Greek Ministry of Education.

In addition to the above programs, our students also receive classes in Music, Theater, Art and Physical Education, taught by specialized teachers.
